Unbiased Opinions
Don’t take our word for it that you’ll have a great time on your Bicycle Adventure. Throughout this website, you’ll see testimonials from customers taken from the questionnaire they completed after their cycling tour. They’ll give you an idea of what to expect on your vacation — and explain why many travel with us again and again.
Many journalists also have traveled with us over the years. Some journalists enjoyed the assignment so much, they’ve come back to Bicycle Adventures on their own. You can read their feature-length articles by clicking on the links on the left side of this page. Below are other excerpts about us from publications such as Bicycling magazine, Conde Nast Traveler, and Glamour.
BICYCLING MAGAZINE
“Bicycle Adventures has people in its office who have gone on trips and can answer your questions. They employ experienced, full-time guides and give them leeway to vary the route depending on the group’s abilities and wishes.
Bicycle Adventures’ financial polices are more liberal in several ways. They assume the financial onus for finding you a roommate, and if you end up in a single room without asking for it, there’s no extra charge. It’s easy to transfer into a tour offered at another time.
A high-end rental usually means you’re in for some good riding. Bicycle Adventures uses bikes with a choice of saddle, a seat bag and optional handlebar bag, and a cyclecomputer.
Bicycle Adventures features a homey feel with its smaller groups and a history of successful tours.”
CONDE NAST TRAVELER
“Bicycle Adventures has a great rep. The guides are boon companions — organized, knowledgeable, and inspiring. Accommodations are plush. On the San Juan Islands-Victoria trip, the hikes are invigorating but eminently doable, and the half day of kayaking is on calm waters with stable boats and expert, enthusiastic instruction.”
HOME & GARDEN
“Bicycle Adventures specializes in bicycling trips for the casual cyclist, the hard-core rider, and everyone in between. Most of BA’s clients are busy professionals who don’t have time to plan a trip. [BA] offers clients a totally stress-free vacation because they don’t have to plan the logistics. Past guests often say that the most important decision they had to make on the trip was what to order for dinner.”
GLAMOUR
“If anyone had told me I’d spend my best vacation in bike shorts, I’d have laughed. But last September I challenged myself to four days of biking around the Pacific Northwest’s San Juan Islands with a Bicycle Adventures tour. I cycled 110 miles and came home with newfound respect for hills and myself.
My group was made up of 12 cyclists from all over the country. Each morning our guides would go over the day’s route, pointing out things to see and where to meet for lunch. Then we’d head out, exploring in small groups or on our own, and sampling restaurants and B&Bs (and hot tubs!).
Each of the islands is different: from rolling farmland and pine forests to rugged coastlines and port towns. Ferrying between islands, with the snow-capped Cascades in the distance, only added to the sense that we’d been transported to another world.
My favorite part of the trip was a 7:30 a.m. ten-mile ride to breakfast. Few words can adequately describe seeing the sun break through the fog as I wound around mist-shrouded coves on a deserted road. Heaven is one that comes to mind.”
SHAPE
“Bicycle Adventures tours set the standard for cycling trips in the Northwest.”
FODOR’S GREAT AMERICAN SPORTS AND ADVENTURE VACATIONS
“I like Bicycle Adventures because it was founded and is still staffed by Pacific Northwest natives who know the area well.”
AAA JOURNEYS
“Bicycle Adventures is friendly and really cares about its guests. You’ll eat at the finest restaurants and stay at the finest hotels in the area. My guide was magically available when he needed to be and cooked a mean pesto tortellini.
The scenery varied from the brilliant-green fields of La Conner to the mustard-colored farms of Lopez to the magnificent view of the Olympics off San Juan.
The rental bikes were super-smooth and equipped with a useful handlebar bag. I rode more than I ever imagined that I could, felt a wonderful camaraderie with the group members, and came back home more of an athlete and a nature lover.”
