Why bicycle adventures

Why Bicycle Adventures?

Value. That’s what you get when you take a Bicycle Adventures tour. First-class lodging and dining. Top-quality rental equipment. Full van support. Regional expertise. Outstanding service. All combined to give you a fun, active, safe, scenic, and absolutely care-free vacation.

First-class Lodging

The hotels, inns, and B&Bs we use are always among the finest the area has to offer. Our smaller group sizes allow us to stay at some award-winning places that can’t handle groups of 25 or more. Learn more about lodging.

Exceptional Dining

At most restaurants, you are not limited to pre-selected “tour menus.” You enjoy whatever you like from the restaurant’s full menu. Everything is included, except alcohol — even appetizers, soups, salads, desserts, and all non-alcoholic beverages. Between meals, we always have plenty of fruit, snacks, and drinks available in the van, and we always host a wine and cheese party during the course of the trip. We provide all meals except one lunch and dinner on some trips — and two lunches and dinners on budget tours. Learn more about meals.

Activities on All Days of the Trip

When we say it’s a six-day tour, we mean six active days — no wasted “meeting” day at the beginning and “travel” day at the end. We have activities planned on each day of your trip, even on layover days — you can choose to do as much or as little as you wish. Learn more about activities in the What You’ll Dosection.

Excellent Group Sizes

Most of our inn-to-inn tours have a maximum of 13 to 18 guests with two or three tour leaders. This allows us to dine and stay in some exclusive locations. We often have larger groups on our budget and camping tours; when we do we use three or four leaders, so we are able to continue to provide outstanding personal service.

Unparalleled Personal Attention

From your first call to the office to the last day of your tour, you’ll be well taken care of.  Our office staff is happy to answer all of your questions and help you work out scheduling or travel problems.  Our guides are mature professionals experienced at leading our trips.  They have the authority and responsibility to adjust the daily schedule and route to better match the interests of your group.  Our leaders go out of their way to help you, whether it’s making sure your favorite beverage is stocked in the cooler, giving you a lift in the van, or planning a surprise birthday party for your spouse.  Your Head Guide will call you the week before your tour starts to introduce him/her self, verify pickup and bike information, and answer any last-minute questions.  Personal contact. Personal service. Learn more about our guides.

Regional Expertise

We specialize in multisport and bicycling vacations in the western United States and Canada, Hawaii, and New Zealand. We have kept our expertise focused on select regions, rather than spreading ourselves thin all over the world. We live here and know these areas well. Learn more in the Where We Gosection.

Longevity

With 26 years of experience under our belt, we know what makes an outstanding vacation. Owner and president Todd Starnes personally joins four to six trips each year as a guest to re-evaluate lodging, dining, and routes, and to speak directly with our customers as they experience a Bicycle Adventure. Since 1984, our mission has remained simple: provide exceptional active vacations with superior personal service.Read a letter from Todd Starnes.

Group and Returning Customer Rewards

All guests who travel with us receive a discount on their next Bicycle Adventure. Groups of 10 or more receive one free trip, which can be awarded to one person or split across the group.

People are talking

This is a superb way to truly experience a new location with absolutely no hassles. Everything is thought of for you — all you have to do is have an incredible sense of fun! Each step of the way — from initial queries, to booking, to meeting up with the tour, to daily briefings and suggestions by our guides — was taken care of in a very professional manner. Coming from Australia, I had quite a few reservations, but they were all unfounded. ”

ROBYN & TONY BROWNNEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA BRYCE-ZION TOUR, APRIL 2007

Two BA policies distinguish you from other companies: 1) Lunch is provided every day, and 2) A good hunk of biking is provided on the beginning and ending days. Both ideas are appealing to veteran bike trippers like us — we’ve probably been on 10 trips or so with a range of bike companies. I also love the cold beer at the end of the day ”

JOHN & PEGGY MOONEYOAKLAND, CALIFORNIA COLUMBIA GORGE TOUR, MAY 2007

Other bike companies offer only 10-20 miles of biking per day, or 1/2 day agendas. This bike trip offered exactly what we wanted — we were busy biking and hiking throughout the day. I personally would rather be active, not napping or shopping. We will definitely be touring with you again. ”

JIM & MICHELLE RIELLYWESTWOOD, MASSACHUSETTS BRYCE-ZION TOUR, SEPTEMBER 2007

If a person is interested in a vacation that only requires them to bike, laugh a lot, enjoy fabulous views and vistas and fellow traveler’s camaraderie, then they should definitely sign on to a BA trip. They won’t be disappointed ”
