The Oregon Wine country, centered in Yamhill County just 40 miles southwest of Portland, continues to grow and win international acclaim ⎯ particulary for its Pinot Noir. The area has some of the best restaurants in the state, great cycling on rural roads, but special places to stay are still lacking. There is one exception: a fantastic bed and breakfast situated on a hill south of McMinnville overlooking the fertile fields of the Willamette Valley. Because of its small size and lack of rooms with two beds, we limit this trip to just four couples who will enjoy all three nights at this inn. Each night we’ll van to one of the excellent fine dining experiences in the wine country.

Your trip starts with a Monday morning pick up in Portland in our van, and a shuttle to the town of Newburg where the cycling starts. We’ll ride on rural roads to the Willakenzie Estate winery near Yamhill. This winery is known for its lovely grounds and facilities as much as its wine. After a leisurely lunch and wine tasting, we’ll shuttle south to our B&B in plenty of time to enjoy our rooms, the commanding view, and a walk through the B&B’s 50 acre working estate and vineyards. This is truly a special place of luxury and romance.
On Tuesday, after feasting on the inn’s tasty breakfast, we’ll cycle from the inn downhill to the valley floor, stopping at an extensive art gallery. We’ll continue through farmland to another winery for lunch. Afterward, we’ll shuttle back to our inn, stopping at the Evergreen Aviation Museum to take a quick look at the Spruce Goose, a spy plane, and more than 75 historical aircraft.

Wednesday is a layover day for visiting by van some of the most interesting wineries in the area. We’ll have lunch at a delightful café in old town McMinnville, and also visit the art galleries and boutique shops in old town.
Thursday we cycle south through the relatively flat Willamette Valley past fields of nursery stock. We cross the Willamette River on a small ferry and cycle north through fertile farmland to a large state park where we conclude the trip.
