Pub & Pedal California Bike Tour - NEW!
The fun continues! Northern California is home to a plethora of craft-style breweries that are as phenomenal (if not as well known) as its wineries. Ride through the 'beer country' of the Russian River, the Anderson
Valley and Healdsburg! This 6-day-pack of fun is crammed with bicycling, beer sampling and brewpub tours - and finishes with a grand finale at Marin County's Biketoberfest.
DAY 1
From the Golden Gate to the golden brew. With a bike, a beach and a hill or two.
Our ride begins just across the Golden Gate in Marin County, known for its natural beauty, the oldest trail-running event in the country - and, of course, beer! Ride out to Stinson Beach and through Muir Woods, then visit a new microbrewery in Mill Valley called Beer Works.
DAY 2
Presidio to Petaluma, home of the famed Lagunitas Brewing Company.
Ride the north coast into Petaluma, in Sonoma County. Visit
the San Francisco Presidio, one of the most amazing and best preserved
buildings in Northern California. Drink and dine al fresco at the Lagunitas Taproom and Beer Sanctuary, founded in 1993. This well-regarded brewery is known for iconoclastic interpretations of traditional beer styles. Sample their flagship IPA as well as some of their more alternative-style beers (only available on-site).
DAY 3
Ride into Santa Rose to visit the masters at Russian River Brewing Company.
Today you'll ride into Santa Rosa and along the
Russian River, home of the Russian River Brewing Company. Korbel Champagne Cellars founded RRBC in 1997 when they wanted to try crafting beer, then handed it off to Brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo in 2002. Cilurzo is now hailed as one of the most
innovative microbrewers in the country, credited with inventing the style of beer known as Double India Pale Ale or Imperial IPA. Be sure to try Pliny the Elder (available 93.5% of the time!)
DAY 4
Dry Creek and Healdsburg - home of great brews like Bear Republic's Racer 5 IPA.
Ride further north today, through the Dry Creek Wine
country region to the small town of
Healdsburg. Though known as one of Northern California’s wine capitals, Healdsburg also produces some great beer! Tonight we'll
sample some of Bear Republic's tasty brew.
DAY 5
What's in a name: Hopland.
Today you'll ride still further north into Hopland, where the name says it all! Hopland's Mendocino Brewing Company was founded in 1983 by home-brewers Michael Laybourn and Norman
Franks. Their flagship beer, Red Tail Ale, was named after both the
beer's color and also a local hymn titled "The Redtail Hawk". Visit the original brewery to taste this storied California beer.
DAY 6
West into Boonville, a town with its own language and its own beer.
Ride west between forests of redwood and live oak into the Anderson
Valley and the small village of Boonville. Boonville is best known as
the source of the Boontling folk language. Bottles from the local
Anderson Valley Brewing Company are labeled with the Boontling motto "It's bahl
hornin'," which means "It's good drinkin'.". Tour this unique craft brewery, one of the oldest in the US.
DAY 7
South to Marin County's Biketoberfest finale - a party on two wheels.
Head back south to Marin County for the start of Biketoberfest 2012! The city of Fairfax in Marin County is an epicenter for the cycling community. During Biketoberfest the town closes its streets to cars and brings in over 25 West
Coast bicycle frame builders and 25 West Coast brewers to celebrate the
art of craft bikes and craft beer. Join a
Celebrity Road Ride and savor the festival's great food,
great music and great beer, Afterward, we'll take you back to San Francisco.
